We are ready to take off! Where do people travel from Budapest Airport?
Under two years, the traffic of the Liszt Ferenc International Airport of Budapest increased to its double. Until 2018, most people travelled to other airports of the EU from the Hungarian capital, and in December 2019 the airport reached 16 million passengers who arrived or departed from it.

24.hu reported that changes began in 2003 when the Hungarian airline WizzAir was established. The airline opened many flights to different countries on the continent and caused a significant increase. Eurostat released the statistics about the main destinations since 2001 from the Hungarian airport.
Frankfurt took first place but it is important to mention that many people only travelled here to get on transatlantic flights. Paris took second place while the third Amsterdam.

Other cities in the top ten are London-Luton, London-Heathrow, Munich, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam, Zürich, Rome, Helsinki and Dublin. The traffic of Liszt Ferenc Aiport was above ten million in 2018, which made it one of the airports with the most passengers each year.
In 2018, Germany, the UK, and Italy were the most popular destinations alongside the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Turkey, France and Israel.
From the other major Hungarian airport in Debrecen, most people travelled to London-Luton, Paris and Amsterdam. Other popular destinations are Sweden, Israel, Moscow and Munich.
